Profile
“I believe that empathy is the driving force at the core of each positive therapeutic relationship.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
At age 14, I decided I was going to be a therapist. Navigating the rugged terrains of adolescence, I felt a strong sense that every teenager who needed support deserved the opportunity to receive it. I decided that I wanted to be that support someday and, thus, my journey began. My areas of interest and focus have changed throughout the years, but my desire to help people has not wavered. I have experience working with adults with developmental disabilities, forensic psychiatric patients, incarcerated men, adults and adolescents with co-occurring substance use disorders, LGBTQIA+ teens, and runaway youth. I have specialized training in substance use disorders and treatment as well as crisis intervention. My experience working with many different populations in many different settings has enhanced my awareness of the social, systemic, cultural, and racial issues and barriers that extend beyond just one’s personal challenges. I aim to consider all of these things while assisting my clients.
What should someone know about working with you?
I use a person-centered therapy approach where the client is ultimately in control of the therapeutic process. However, I also strongly believe in the effectiveness of working collaboratively where both client and therapist, together, create a treatment plan and work toward specific goals. I aim to guide my clients to find their own solutions and to help them utilize their own strengths. I believe that empathy is the driving force at the core of each positive therapeutic relationship. I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach but rely on my clinical judgment to tailor therapy to each individual's goals and/or needs.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I really love seeing the movement to normalize therapy, which helps decrease stigma related to mental health issues and mental health treatment and allows people who may feel they can benefit from treatment to become more comfortable in taking the steps to find it.
