Profile
“I like to be interactive during sessions and prefer using a conversational style.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
Mental health counseling is my second career. I really like helping people become their best possible selves so this has been a great fit for my personality. I began my career in mental health working with veterans who were experiencing homelessness due fully or in part to severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders. This led me to working at the VA with combat veterans and survivors of military sexual trauma who were diagnosed with PTSD and other trauma-related mental health disorders. I've owned my private practice since 2018, which gives me the flexibility to work with veterans and civilians. I specialize in treating anxiety, stress, OCD, and trauma-related mental health injuries.
What should someone know about working with you?
Not everyone has the same needs; in fact, it’s hard to find two people who benefit from the exact same approach to mental health. Therefore, I prefer to take an eclectic approach to therapy, using a variety of interventions. I am trained in EMDR and am a certified hypnotherapist. I like to be interactive during sessions and prefer using a conversational style. My experience working with a wide variety of people has given me the tools necessary to provide the most effective therapeutic interventions, and I’ve had the honor of helping hundreds of men and women find strength and resilience through their life experiences.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I am an avid learner and love to learn as much as possible about trauma, including new and cutting-edge trauma treatments. I am trained in EMDR and attend continuing education courses through Emdria International and the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs. I have recently begun incorporating more somatic experiencing and polyvagal therapy into my treatment and have taken several trainings on these in the past couple of years. I am always interested in finding out about local training opportunities.
