What was your path to becoming a therapist?
As cliché as it might sound, my passion has always been helping others. In so many ways, I’m proud of where that cliché has taken me. It led me to discover counseling and mental wellness and realize how I could use my passion to help people resolve deep-seated issues and make challenges more manageable in everyday life. This same passion led me to pursue mental health counseling and work with a diverse population, including those facing struggles with general mental health issues, life transitions, depression, anxiety, substance use, and incarceration. I also work with underprivileged youth and families. I think my experience with such a diverse population profoundly influences the way I work with clients. I truly value and strive to promote an empathic, warm, nonjudgmental, and safe space where my clients can speak their truths and share their voices without the need for apologies.
What should someone know about working with you?
I think of therapy as a collaborative process between the therapist and the client. In order for that process to be as effective as possible, I want the client to find the right fit with a therapist they are able to trust and build rapport. I value the client’s journey above all, and I will always prioritize their comfort, treatment needs, and goals when coming to therapy (whether or not it’s with me). When working together, I hope to be able to help clients uncover or further their own strengths and transform into who they aspire to be.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
My top core values are empathy, honesty, and kindness. I think it’s so important to recognize that everyone has their own story and background and that we should be kind as much as possible. Most people’s stories aren’t always skin-deep; with empathy, honesty, and kindness, we can slowly ease, or at least soothe, each other’s hearts.
