Profile
“I take a holistic approach to psychotherapy in which I utilize evidence-based psychotherapy and also consider the mind-body interaction to help individuals reduce stress and manage chronic pain.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
My journey to becoming a psychologist began in the Midwest as an undergraduate at Iowa State University. As a sophomore in college, I learned that I could combine my interest in psychological research and science with clinical practice by becoming a counseling psychologist. My journey continued to the University of Iowa where I completed my graduate training. Here, I honed my interest and specialized in the area of health psychology. I was able to train at top ranked hospitals and fostered a deep interest in caring for clients facing chronic health conditions. As my career has continued, I have remained passionate about helping individuals cope and find peace in the midst of living with physical health conditions.
What should someone know about working with you?
I take a holistic approach to psychotherapy in which I utilize evidence-based psychotherapy and also consider the mind-body interaction to help individuals reduce stress and manage chronic pain. I believe that the time between sessions is highly important and I often provide things to work on or consider between sessions. I enjoy being collaborative with clients as they develop their personal roadmap to healing.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I would consider myself a lifelong learner. As a member of various professional organizations, I have the opportunity to not only learn from my peers but also engage in continuing education with experts in the field of psychology. In addition, I subscribe to journals so that I remain current on literature and the changing landscape of my field.
