Profile
“I am empathetic and create a nonjudgmental environment for clients to safely explore their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and interpersonal relationships.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I became a therapist because I was always interested in understanding emotions and their impact on behavior. I am a compassionate listener and was always there to support friends and family as needed. I pursued a degree in forensic psychology with a minor in addiction studies followed by a master's degree in mental health counseling. I am empathetic and create a nonjudgmental environment for clients to safely explore their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and interpersonal relationships. I have worked in outpatient clinics, methadone clinics, and private practice. My experience has given me a variety of resources and techniques to utilize throughout sessions.
What should someone know about working with you?
Our sessions are guided by you and are light and friendly — think of them as a conversation that may be interrupted to seek further information and ultimately provide you with greater insight into yourself. Intakes are structured sessions focused on gathering information and addressing your questions. I understand that the first session can be stressful and awkward but this is the foundation of creating an environment in which you feel comfortable. Homework may be given to give you an opportunity to further explore subjects discussed in session. I employ a variety of techniques and approaches shaped specifically for you.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
To remain a competent therapist, I continue to consume research on relevant topics in addition to attending trainings.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am most excited about the decrease in stigma and the increased accessibility as I believe mental health is as important as physical health. With increased acceptance, normalization, and accessibility, more people are able to receive services and achieve their goals towards mental wellness.
