Profile
“My treatment includes self-reflection assignments and carryover strategies that clients will be asked to do during the week to address treatment goals.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
Growing up in multicultural New York City was an awesome experience that provided me with access to diverse communities and a wealth of experiences. As a child, I made friends with people from all parts of the world and was always intrigued to learn about their customs, beliefs, and experiences. That was the beginning of my interest, which reflects my present day work as a therapist. I have had the opportunity to work in New York City and abroad with folks from all parts of the globe. I've worked in varied community settings, including schools, clinics, hospitals, crisis hotlines, nonprofit social service organizations, the Department of Health, and in-home care. I completed my graduate school training in clinical social work, followed by a six year clinical residency; I have advanced training in cognitive behavioral therapies, including applied behavioral analysis (ABA) and exposure and response prevention (ERP).
What should someone know about working with you?
We will start with an initial assessment. This is an opportunity to meet prospective clients and for clients to meet me. It’s also a time where we can begin to discuss pressing issues, concerns, and the reasons why services are being sought. We will home in on presenting issues and identify treatment goals and the types of interventions that we will embark on. Oftentimes, my treatment includes self-reflection assignments and carryover strategies that clients will be asked to do during the week to address treatment goals.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
The field of mental health is expanding and incorporating technologies to assist providers and clients. This has increased access to treatment, access to innovative approaches, and access to useful information. The use of telemedicine is evolving tremendously and I've embraced it from the start. Having worked at a crisis hotline center a number of years ago, I recognize the importance and effectiveness of telemedicine and welcome expanding access via phone, video, and cutting edge technologies.
