Profile
“I do my best work with motivated clients; you reap what you sow and even when it looks like nothing's happening, there's a lot going on under the surface.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I took the scenic route! I have always wanted to be a counselor, but life threw me a few curveballs and I got off track for a while. In the interim, I worked for corporate executives, attorneys, and as an educator. There have been some rough patches along the way, and the lessons I learned allow me to share my experience, strength, and hope with others.
What should someone know about working with you?
I do my best work with motivated clients; you reap what you sow and even when it looks like nothing's happening, there's a lot going on under the surface. I'm pretty direct and that's not everyone's cup of tea; I call 'em like I see 'em but always in the service of your betterment.
How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy?
My experience has taught me that life is short and time is precious. Honesty is one of my core values and I strongly encourage my clients to be honest with themselves.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I LOVE telehealth because it removes the barriers to service. Now you can get the help you need from the privacy and comfort of your own home.
Have you done any research-based work that you found particularly exciting? How does it inform your practice today?
In my school library media specialist program, I did my master's thesis on media literacy. I taught middle schoolers about some of the techniques of persuasion used by advertisers. I think more people need to be aware that things are not always as they seem!
