Profile
“My goal is to create a safe space for individuals to explore and understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and assist them in making the necessary changes needed to achieve their goals and improve their lives.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
Both of my parents were in the helping profession, so at an early age, I was exposed to the dedication, commitment, and integrity needed to effectively help people change their lives and improve their circumstances. I often watched my parents prepare for, support, and advocate for people while showing empathy, patience, and compassion. Having a solid foundation of empathy and advocacy led me to pursue a career in the helping profession and drew me to the field of social work. A passion for helping and clinical training have been instrumental in my ability to connect with people and help them reach their therapeutic goals in order to live happier, more productive, and satisfying lives.
What should someone know about working with you?
Therapy begins when one finds themselves at a crossroads, wanting to make a change, and gathers the courage to reach out to a clinician for help. My goal is to create a safe space for individuals to explore and understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and assist them in making the necessary changes needed to achieve their goals and improve their lives. The first few sessions are designed to obtain background information, outline goals, and decide on the approach that will help you achieve your desired outcome. I will work with you to get to the source of your concerns so that change becomes possible and sustainable. A change in perspective, increased coping mechanisms, and goal achievement are indicators that progress is being made and that your journey toward a healthier, more satisfying life is achievable.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am excited to see a shift in the stigma associated with accessing mental health services. Various social media outlets are now embracing the idea of seeking counseling for support, which decreases the shame and judgment often associated with needing help.
