What was your path to becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor?
My compassionate and empathic personality led me to become a therapist. I have been in the mental health field for over 10 years and have experience in outpatient, school, hospital, private practice, long-term care, and prison settings. It has been a joy to create a space for support and compassion for others without judgment. It has been an honor to be a part of my clients’ journeys toward wellness.
What should someone know about working with you?
Creating an unconditionally supportive, warm, empathic, and safe environment to explore the possibilities of change, strengths, limitations, obstacles, and relationship patterns is my number one priority. My style is direct and genuine, yet casual, friendly, kind, and easy-going. I believe in flexibility, honest communication, and collaboration. I am passionate about empowering clients to advance their growth while supporting their goals. In my practice, I help clients retell their stories in more gratifying ways to add excitement and purpose to their lives while encouraging their mental and physical health. I use a multidisciplinary, client-centered, action-oriented, and strengths-focused approach with a foundation of narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness techniques. I strive to provide tools for my clients that can be used right away. While this is my office, it’s your time, and how we spend it is really up to you! Ultimately, my goal is to work with you to resolve whatever’s causing discomfort and help you learn new ways of moving forward.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I continue to learn and grow in this field by participating in a multitude of continuing education opportunities, which include workshops, podcasts, videos, conferences, and specialized training. I look for opportunities to learn from and collaborate with other mental health professionals. I also enjoy reading books related to therapeutic techniques, strategies, and other mental health topics.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
Over the years, I have learned the impact of nutrition, exercise, community, and other lifestyle choices on mental wellness. This led me to obtain specialized training in nutritional psychiatry and integrative mental health. I am committed to the lifestyle that I teach, which incorporates mindfulness, emotional health, whole-food eating, and fulfilling activities. I am excited to help you build confidence by creating a nourishing lifestyle that considers mind-body balance, self-care, hopefulness, and excitement while connecting to your genuine authentic self.
