“I believe that we all possess the ability to use the best parts of ourselves to make the changes that can bring wellness to our lives and enrich our connections to others.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
As a young person, I was always curious about what others were thinking and feeling. Perhaps this was because I had difficulty expressing my own thoughts and feelings. In college, I chose to study psychology because my curiosity and empathy had only deepened over time. In my training, I was able to acquire an understanding of what motivates us to think and behave as we do. However, it was not until I worked with clients and their families that I felt compelled to help others on their journeys to wellness. Working with clients and their loved ones reinforced that a person can flourish with guidance, a sense of safety, and kindness, I believe that we all possess the ability to use the best parts of ourselves to make the changes that can bring wellness to our lives and enrich our connections to others.
What should someone know about working with you?
In our work together, I will provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive space where you can focus on the areas in your life and the parts of yourself that you want to better. You will be provided with guidance and evidence-based tools, empathy, and professional feedback that will allow you to build on your strengths and develop new ways to manage stressors. Our first session will involve gathering the information important to our work together as well as identifying the goals that will guide your therapeutic experience.
How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy?
Working on how we feel about ourselves is at the center of the therapeutic experience. In my work with clients, I try to practice cultural humility. I believe that listening and respecting an individual’s experience in a world with conscious and unconscious biases is essential in creating a strong, authentic, and effective foundation for the therapy process. In practicing cultural humility, I consider how the systems in which we live treat us and how they make us feel about ourselves. Together, we will navigate through this as we work to strengthen and enhance your life.
