“I began my career working with at-risk youth in the juvenile justice system and I noticed that there were very few men in the field of social work.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I began my career working with at-risk youth in the juvenile justice system and I noticed that there were very few men in the field of social work. I was making a difference in those young men’s lives, but I needed to do more. So I pursued specialized training and schooling to advance my knowledge and effectiveness within the behavioral health field. Throughout my career, I had the opportunity to work in many different positions and with different populations within the behavioral health field, which allowed me to narrow down my area of focus. Becoming a therapist, I knew I would be able to continue to make an impact on people's lives.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
Mental health has constantly evolved over the years to meet the needs of individuals suffering from mental health disorders. Telehealth has been able to provide a platform to reach more people who normally wouldn’t go to an in-person provider due to stigma. The stigma surrounding mental health has been a deterrent for many but as the stigma decreases, more people will seek help and live a fulfilling life.
