Profile
“I returned to school and obtained my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner to increase access to psychiatric medication management services in the community and help individuals achieve and maintain optimal mental health.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I began my nursing career as a psychiatric nurse in an inpatient psychiatric facility; most of the clients we served suffered from severe mental illness. I witnessed how quickly someone can regain function and independence when they are stabilized on the right medications. I returned to school and obtained my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner to increase access to psychiatric medication management services in the community and help individuals achieve and maintain optimal mental health.
What should someone know about working with you?
Before I take on a client, I take the time to learn about their current level of functioning and their long-term goals to make sure my practice philosophy aligns with their needs. I believe that the relationship between a provider and client is a true collaboration, and the perspective and desires of the client must be integrated with up-to-date evidence and clinical expertise to achieve the best possible outcomes.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
Iā€™m truly excited about how technological advances are being applied to increase access to mental health care. With telehealth, I am able to deliver care to clients in numerous states, many of whom live in locations with no or limited access to psychiatric specialists. My clients are able to connect with me via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform that they may access from their computers or phones. Gone are the days of clients taking time away from work and family to drive to appointments and sit in crowded rooms waiting for their turn to see a prescriber.
