Profile
“I value providing a safe and judgment-free zone where you can embark on a personal journey to deeply explore the issues that have fueled your life struggles, to grieve what you did not get as a child, and to take command of your life moving forward.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I started my career in journalism and theater and found myself drawn to connecting with people on a deeper level than what journalism allowed. I decided to go back to school and specialize in psychology as a result and it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. Psychology allows me to connect with people in a way where I am able to listen deeply to their stories and pain and, in turn, help heal and empower them in their lives.
What should someone know about working with you?
I value providing a safe and judgment-free zone where you can embark on a personal journey to deeply explore the issues that have fueled your life struggles, to grieve what you did not get as a child, and to take command of your life moving forward. I am an interactive and compassionate therapist who believes that the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important factors that predicts success in therapy. I value fostering a deep and safe connection with my clients so they can feel comfortable being themselves freely and fully with me.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I'm in a constant state of learning. I believe a good therapist is constantly educating themselves to deepen their treatment modalities and expand their learning to include new evidence-based skills and techniques. Learning allows me to provide my clients with the best care possible.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am excited about the increased awareness of multicultural training and diversity in the mental health field. I believe that by being a psychologist, it is my social responsibility to be trained to work with and advocate for minority groups and people who do not have privilege. I am also happy to see the work that is happening on a national level to destigmatize issues of mental health.
What settings and populations have you worked with?
I have been very fortunate to work in a myriad of settings with people from all walks of life. I have worked in a college counseling center, a community health center, a women’s center, the VA, prisons, subacute rehab settings, and private practice.
