“As someone who has made wellness a priority in their own life, I understand the importance of understanding how factors like nutrition and exercise play into improving your mental health.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I truly believe that as long as you are willing to do the work, the positive results will follow no matter what your current circumstance. As someone who has made wellness a priority in their own life, I understand the importance of understanding how factors like nutrition and exercise play into improving your mental health. I use an integrative approach to examine all aspects of wellness and how best to tailor treatment to achieve your goals. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a high school teacher working with students with disabilities. Working in the education system as well as over nine years in a nonprofit organization has given me the tools to help diverse populations. I have worked with high-risk populations in order to reintegrate individuals from long-term hospitalizations and worked with members of the military, first responder personnel, and private practice clients seeking acute services. My areas of focus are post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, stress management, and wellness.
What should someone know about working with you?
Our first meeting will consist of an intake assessment. During the assessment, we will work together to see if therapy would be a good fit for both client and provider. We will work to formulate realistic, attainable goals to help you on your path to wellness. We will speak about topics, such as the reason you are seeking therapy as well as any important information regarding your mental and physical health history. My ideal client is someone who is motivated for change and ready to work, a client who is ready to explore and be honest with themselves about how and why change is needed.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
I believe in quality, confidential, and compassionate services. My core value of respect transfers over into the work I do. I strive to make sure each client feels respected and valued as a person. I treat each concern with the respect that I would like to receive from others.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am most excited about the stigma being lifted from mental health in recent years. For too long, people have struggled alone due to the fear of being labeled or discriminated against for seeking help. We can help many people by bringing therapy into their homes in a confidential and comfortable setting.
