What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I remember taking career aptitude tests when I was in middle and high school and the result came back the same every time: A helping profession. Still, I never knew what that would look like exactly. It wasn’t until I was in college and taking an intro to psychology course that I realized this was my passion. I loved learning about the human mind and our behaviors that influence and shape the way we go about life. My road to becoming a therapist came with many challenges and bumps along the way, but I never lost sight of my passion or working toward having my own private practice. So, here we are and I am the proud owner of Simply Mindful Therapy, LLC. Along the way, I gained invaluable experience working with various populations, including children, adolescents, and adults, and working in various settings, including inpatient, residential, outpatient, and military installations. I have been a therapist for over a decade now and I absolutely love what I do!
What should someone know about working with you?
We are faced with many challenges and struggles in our daily lives. It can often be easy to let these challenges overpower you and leave you feeling hopeless. But it is within these challenges that we are able to discover ourselves. I have learned over the years that life is full of rewards, but the most profound thing I have learned is that rewards do not exist without challenges and failures. The more we are able to reshape and rethink the way we view our challenges, the more successful we can be. I would love to help guide you through this process to get YOU back to your awesome YOU! My approach is eclectic, combining solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques. We will take a collaborative approach to create a treatment plan that focuses on meeting your individualized therapy needs and we will continue to work toward those goals in each session.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I am always working to gain new knowledge and cutting-edge techniques to improve my skills as a clinician. I attend multiple trainings and workshops annually to provide the absolute best services for my clients.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I absolutely love that mental health therapy has evolved along the way with technology. Deciding to begin therapy or counseling can be an overwhelming thought and often accompanied by various stigmas. I operate exclusively online to help ease some of the uncomfortable thoughts of accessing mental health care. Let’s face it, we have become a technology-driven society and having access to mental health treatment online has been a game-changer. Not only is it convenient and affordable, but it allows clients to be able to relax in the comfort of their own homes while talking about somewhat uncomfortable things.
