“While we do a lot of work during sessions, I do like to give assignments for outside of therapy, since this helps us step out of our comfort zone and reach our goals.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
Growing up in a community where mental health issues were either hidden or ignored was very frustrating. As a teenager, I knew many individuals who could have really used the help but missed out on major life experiences due to stigma. For me, it wasn't a question of what field I would pursue — it was simply a question of when! After spending a few years working in a private practice as well as consulting for a head start program and providing parenting training, I knew I made the right choice!
What should someone know about working with you?
I believe working together to establish a treatment plan and the goals you want to achieve is the cornerstone of therapy and my intake reflects this. During the intake process, we will begin to discuss what brings you to therapy as well as what you hope to gain from therapy. While we do a lot of work during sessions, I do like to give assignments for outside of therapy, since this helps us step out of our comfort zone and reach our goals. While therapy can seem intimidating and scary, I work with you to make it a space where you can explore and feel safe.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
While the field of therapy is constantly evolving, one of the most exciting aspects is telehealth. It allows many individuals to attend virtual therapy with just an internet connection when they would not have access to therapy otherwise.
