“I believe that the cornerstone of life-changing therapy is a strong alliance between client and therapist and thus, I like to focus on building this relationship early on.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
My path to becoming a therapist began in middle school, when I realized that my school counselor had a very important and admirable job. I was hypersensitive to the social challenges that naturally arise during adolescence and developed a passion to one day be able to help people who are struggling. Growing up with a father who is a psychiatrist, I always loved asking him questions about psychology and how people can heal. During my undergraduate experience, I had the opportunity to learn progressive therapeutic techniques, including creative arts therapies and mindfulness-based therapy. I then went on to work in a special education school and in outpatient substance abuse clinics. My clinical background, along with my personal experiences, have helped form the integrative and holistic approach that I use with the clients I have the pleasure of working with.
What should someone know about working with you?
The initial session will typically be the most structured so that I can gather a full history and discuss the primary issues you would like to address through therapy. I believe that the cornerstone of life-changing therapy is a strong alliance between client and therapist and thus, I like to focus on building this relationship early on. While I tailor each therapeutic experience to the individual's unique needs, the process always involves establishing clear goals and making sure we are making progress at a pace that feels right to you.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
My core value of living a fulfilled life undoubtedly shapes my approach to therapy. I find that many mental health issues take form when we are not feeling connected to ourselves and a greater life purpose. I have worked with people who were close to giving up on life altogether and was able to help them uncover their inner will to live and flourish. I am extremely passionate about helping people nurture their relationship with themselves and find ways to cultivate a more fulfilling life.
