What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I have been a therapist for over 25 years and have worked with all age groups, including children, adolescents, and adults. I have provided individual, group, and couples therapy and started out working with children and adolescents in a residential treatment facility. Later, I opened my own practice where I worked with adults as well. I became a therapist because I have many family members who struggle with anxiety, depression, and OCD. I am a warm and caring person who likes to help others move toward personal growth and positive changes in their lives. I specialize in CBT, ACT, and ERP for OCD.
What should someone know about working with you?
I begin therapy with a psychosocial assessment and a discussion on family history to address each client's personal struggles and learn about what they are experiencing at the present time. I like to help my clients make short and long-term goals for themselves and provide worksheets in ACT and CBT as needed. I enjoy working with people of all age groups and backgrounds, and I especially like working with adolescents and young adults.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
My continuing education has been in exposure and response prevention, mindfulness approaches, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I am most interested in learning more about post-traumatic stress disorder.
How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy?
I have worked with individuals of all socioeconomic backgrounds, LGBTQ clients, and clients from different cultures and I have participated in many cultural diversity workshops. Anxiety and depression run in my family so I feel I have a better understanding of my clients who struggle in these areas.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
Since 2013, I have utilized telehealth in my practice and find it to be most beneficial to my clients. It allows them to participate in therapy from the comfort of their homes and offices, all without office wait times.
