“I am constantly learning to be a better therapist from the individuals I work with.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I've always wanted to be a therapist, although — along the way — my understanding of therapy has changed and grown. I have worked in a variety of settings with people from diverse backgrounds. Some of my professional experiences include working with people who struggle with substance use and complex psychiatric illnesses. I also am familiar with routine primary care mental health concerns. Most importantly, I am constantly learning to be a better therapist from the individuals I work with.
What should someone know about working with you?
In our first meeting, we will lay the foundation for successful therapy. This may include discussing what you hope to achieve in therapy, your goals, and how to achieve those goals. Throughout our time working together, we will execute a plan using a variety of techniques and interventions and we will have the opportunity to assess our progress and make adjustments accordingly.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
As a therapist, I help clients set goals and objectives but I also set goals and objectives for myself. Each year, I attend continuing education events and seminars to ensure I'm up-to-date on new therapeutic approaches.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I love how accessible mental health treatment has become with telehealth and that excellent mental health treatment can be brought to your door (or to your screen)! We can now see a therapist from the comfort of our home. Even more, it’s effective! That's cool!
