Profile
“I am particularly interested in learning about different coping strategies to help support my clients as well as techniques to maintain cultural competency.”
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I attend training throughout the year to ensure I am up-to-date on the therapeutic modalities I practice and other topics that can enhance my practice. I also read articles and books on mental health. I am particularly interested in learning about different coping strategies to help support my clients as well as techniques to maintain cultural competency.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
I was born and raised in Jamaica and came to the US as a young adult. As a Jamaican woman, my core values have been steeped in the traditions of an island rich in cultural diversity and born out of the resilience of ancestors who were held in captivity. I believe that my cultural background has equipped me to work with a diverse clientele without the barrier of judgment and with the openness to see positive possibilities in others.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am most excited about the ability to provide telehealth services. I believe that this change has potentially revolutionized mental health care, providing clients with treatment in their own natural environments. I believe that the advantage of this is that clients who might be resistant to treatment may now be more open to the possibility.
