“My goal is for therapy sessions to flow naturally and feel like conversations.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I have always considered myself a genuine person who seeks to understand others. In deciding to pursue a career in mental health, I was driven by a desire to give a voice to those who are feeling most vulnerable. Oftentimes, individuals facing significant life obstacles find that they are unable to be truly authentic about their struggles with friends and family. Throughout my life, I was exposed to people dealing with the effects of their personal traumas or other mental health issues and feeling like there was nowhere to turn. By being in a helping profession, I am able to give people a sense of hope for the future and help them see that healing is possible.
What should someone know about working with you?
My goal is for therapy sessions to flow naturally and feel like conversations. I am known to be very practical and I enjoy using humor to help my clients feel comfortable. I find it important to assess how a client feels therapy is going along the way. I value feedback about what is working well and what may not be working. I am generally available on Monday and Tuesday after 6PM as well as any time on the weekend.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
One of my core values is that every person is the expert on his or her own life. I have learned through life experiences that, more often than not, the answer lies within. In addition, becoming a parent has given me fresh perspectives on empathy and resilience. One of my favorite parenting podcasts is See Me Hear Me Love Me. I believe it is a beautiful title that not only sums up parenting but also encapsulates the human experience at its core. The aspect of being a therapist that is perhaps the most meaningful to me is having the opportunity to hear your story and your spin on the human experience.
