Profile
“My goal is to help my clients feel empowered by learning healthy coping and self-care skills that change their behavior and allow them to feel content and joyous in their lives and relationships.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
As someone who has always loved getting to know people and trying to understand them, it was only natural that I was drawn to a helping profession. I have been working in mental health for over 20 years and find it a rewarding and fulfilling career. Working with my clients through significant issues, transitions, and life events always amazes me and shows me how strong and determined they are to feel and be mentally and emotionally healthy. My goal is to help my clients feel empowered by learning healthy coping and self-care skills that change their behavior and allow them to feel content and joyous in their lives and relationships.
What should someone know about working with you?
I believe in an individualized approach to each client and their situation. During the intake process, I encourage my clients to share anything they feel is important to them and I give them the room and chance to feel comfortable enough to share. I work together with my clients to formulate their goals in therapy and encourage clients to speak up when and if they feel something is not working for them. Change happens slowly and quietly but usually you will feel relief within the first few sessions. I believe therapy is a commitment to yourself and your health and that homework is an important part of therapy as it helps the client stay focused on their goal.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
Continued education is a vital part of my profession that helps develop my personal and professional growth. I am part of a peer supervision group and invest my time in seminars, at conferences, and reading research articles and magazines.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
Dependability, commitment, honesty, humor, acceptance, and compassion are values that define me personally and professionally; I am mindful that these values are reflected in the work with my clients.
