Profile
“I take an eclectic approach to therapy but I often draw on psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques and tailor them to the individual needs of my clients (since they are unique in their own ways).”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
Friends would always come to me for advice or a listening ear, as they knew I would not judge them and I would be supportive of their process. However, the deciding factor for becoming a therapist was when I was working as a camp counselor under the director, who was a social worker. She cultivated a program that was tailored to each camper's needs in a loving, nurturing, and secure environment that left lasting impressions on the lives of so many during a time when social-emotional learning is the most imperative.
What should someone know about working with you?
I take an eclectic approach to therapy but I often draw on psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques and tailor them to the individual needs of my clients (since they are unique in their own ways). We will work collaboratively to solve problems, increase your self-confidence, and create healing so you can live an emotionally and mentally healthy life.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
As a Black American and West Indian heterosexual female, I have experienced various forms of trauma and microagressions that have impacted that way I experience the world. My end goal is to develop an authentic relationship with each of my clients by understanding their culture, religion, race, and other facets that make them who they are. This will allow me to help them navigate their world.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
Mental health is becoming less stigmatized and more accessible as telehealth continues to expand. Telehealth allows individuals to remove barriers that once existed. In addition, there are more platforms that support mental health than ever before.
