“While many of us come to counseling to discuss things or make changes that maybe we've been avoiding for a long time, therapy shouldn't feel hard or like a struggle.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
In my 20s, I was really struggling. I was in a dead-end job, an unhappy relationship, and I found myself wondering, "Is this all there is?" I walked into a therapist's office and it changed my life. She challenged me to let go of excuses and push beyond what I thought was possible for myself. She also encouraged me to go back to school to become a psychotherapist, which had always been a dream. Fast forward many (many!) years later and I have the opportunity to help others live the life they've imagined.
What should someone know about working with you?
Many of my clients have said that talking to me is like talking with a good friend. While many of us come to counseling to discuss things or make changes that maybe we've been avoiding for a long time, therapy shouldn't feel hard or like a struggle. My goal is to help you feel better quickly and start making positive changes in your life from the first meeting on.
How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy?
Vulnerability and authenticity are so important. I show up as my true self no matter whether I'm talking with a client, a colleague, or a friend; I don't know how to be any other way.
