Profile
“I believe that my diverse professional experience working with a variety of populations gives me a unique understanding of the social, financial, emotional, mental, and economic problems people experience.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I am a social worker by trade and have always been passionate about working to improve the lives of children and families. My professional experience includes working with families affected by HIV/AIDS, children in foster care, medically fragile children, and those in psychiatric crises. I have worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and social service agencies. I believe that my diverse professional experience working with a variety of populations gives me a unique understanding of the social, financial, emotional, mental, and economic problems people experience. I believe that having this appreciation of the human experience makes me an insightful, mindful, and compassionate therapist.
What should someone know about working with you?
I believe in starting where my client is. I will, of course, ask questions but it is up to the client to disclose what they feel comfortable sharing. Building a therapeutic alliance can be a process, so I will just say: "I am ready when you are.” However, at the end of each session, I will typically highlight progress, next steps, and what may be focused on in the next session.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am particularly happy about the evolution of telehealth. By making mental health services more accessible, I feel like more people are willing to engage in mental health services.
