“My approach is warm, direct, supportive, encouraging, and accepting.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
In my prior career as a school psychologist, I practiced at US military bases in Germany and public schools in Arizona and New York. My extensive experience assisting all ages in accessing accommodations and modifications for learning challenges in educational or workplace settings strongly inspired my current desire. As a clinical psychologist, I strive to help clients resolve the obstacles that challenge their ability to reach their fullest potential in all realms of functioning.
What should someone know about working with you?
During our first meeting, I make sure we work together in establishing the goals we want to accomplish by the end of therapy. My approach is warm, direct, supportive, encouraging, and accepting. My therapy is thoroughly active and relevant homework assignments are discussed and agreed upon for many sessions to optimize learning and growth.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I am a committed lifelong learner and consistently take online courses that cover a wide range of topics. I also read from evidence-based, credible informational resources to ensure that the knowledge I pass on to my clients is not only accurate but exquisitely relevant to each client.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
The field of neuroscience continues to fascinate me and the ability to provide targeted information regarding brain-based explanations for many maladaptive/disruptive behaviors has been incredibly rewarding to myself and to my clients. It helps reduce shame and guilt involving diagnosed (and undiagnosed) mental health issues and it helps generate wonderful self-compassion.
How do clients describe what it is like working with you?
My clients describe me as follows: “The consummate professional, Dr. Gangi provides sound advice and support without being judgmental or condescending. I always leave her office feeling uplifted and positive.”...”[She] is a wonderful therapist. She makes you feel comfortable and is actively present during every session, taking notes and engaging by asking questions and providing feedback. She is empathetic and nonjudgmental"...“[She] uses the knowledge she has gained from her education and training in combination with the knowledge she has gained from her patients to give wise, helpful commentary and guidance. Her visits are interactive, and she asks probing, targeted questions to better understand how to treat you”.
