Profile
“I believe the therapeutic work should not begin and end with our sessions; the work should continue outside of our sessions in reflection, journaling, meditation, self-care, etc.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I have always found the human mind interesting and desired a career that dealt with understanding how the mind operates while allowing me to be a support person in the mental health field. I obtained my degree and began interning and working in the field of social work. My experiences have allowed me to work with various ages and individuals from all walks of life experiencing the challenges that may come from those walks. I have provided support in several settings, including schools, case management organizations, homeless shelters, and private practices. In addition to my education and work experience, I continue to learn and grow as a mental health professional by attending various training related to CBT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and more. Continuing to participate in training allows me to stay up-to-date on my treatment modalities, which allows me to continue to show up for my clients in my best, most helpful state.
What should someone know about working with you?
I work with clients to facilitate self-efficacy and goal attainment, and I bring a spirit of warmth, compassion, kindness, honesty, and curiosity to each session. In working with me, the client will be in the driver’s seat, as you are the best expert on your life. I will meet you where you are and together we will build. I assign light homework on occasion as needed. I believe the therapeutic work should not begin and end with our sessions; the work should continue outside of our sessions in reflection, journaling, meditation, self-care, etc. I enjoy working with clients who are committed to participating in the therapeutic relationship.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
I am genuinely a compassionate person. My spiritual upbringing has shaped me to be compassionate to all individuals I come into contact with. I believe social work is a compassionate field, as social workers work to serve others and provide support. In my sessions, my clients are able to feel comfortable with me, as my care and compassion are observable and felt through my interactions. I also bring my personality into sessions.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am so incredibly excited about teletherapy. I believe that it is an amazing way to connect with clients wherever they may be, offering the chance for treatment from the comfort of their homes. I have found that many clients experience less anxiety with teletherapy since the stress of commuting to an office has been removed.
