“As a first-generation American whose parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic in the 1970s, I understand firsthand the struggles of feeling displaced and floating between two worlds.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
As a first-generation American whose parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic in the 1970s, I understand firsthand the struggles of feeling displaced and floating between two worlds. The ongoing conflict, sense of gratitude, and sense of obligation for the sacrifices your parents made can lead to feelings of being unheard, misunderstood, and not fitting in. These experiences as well as my passion for helping others find healing and self-love and live their lives with joy and meaning are why I became a therapist.
What should someone know about working with you?
There are a lot of different theories and approaches to therapy. While talking about weekly events that cause pain can provide some temporary relief, my goal as a therapist is to help people transform their pain into emotional, physical, and spiritual healing. I provide a place of understanding, learning, supporting, and the opportunity to build a sense of deepening into the self, all while taking control of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I help you explore the possibility of living a healthy and fulfilled life. I utilize a variety of techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy, stress management, trauma-informed therapy, positive psychology, mindfulness, and the mind-body connection with breathwork and movement.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I have a passion for and dedication to this work. Therefore, it's important to ensure that I continue to learn skills that will help achieve a high level of success with my clients. The following are certifications that I've completed throughout my career: Certification as a trauma-sensitive yoga facilitator, certification in cognitive behavioral therapy, certification as a trauma specialist, and certification as a mindfulness facilitator.
