Esta Rose Psychotherapy, LCSW

Esta Rose is a seasoned professional who works on creating and maintaining a safe space for her clients. She views self-defeating behaviors, depression, and anxiety as “cover-ups” for feeling inadequate, feeling unloved, or feeling shame. In a truly calm and occasionally playful manner, cover-ups can be deeply understood and thus, dramatically controlled. Esta specializes in work with adolescents with confusion and fears, and couples struggling with differences with each other.

“As a therapist, I am interactive and try to make all involved safe, comfortable, and engaged in the process (because it is a process and not a quick fix).”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I grew up in a household where my mother was in therapy. When I was 18 and ambivalent about marriage, I went to therapy. I later taught school, worked in foster care, and worked as a therapist in a child and family clinic in a poor, drug-infested neighborhood in Queens. I completed my psychoanalytic training at the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City.
What should someone know about working with you?
As a therapist, I am interactive and try to make all involved safe, comfortable, and engaged in the process (because it is a process and not a quick fix). I work best with people interested in their own psychological growth, couples interested in their partner’s dynamics, and those who are willing to be honest with themselves.
Why have you been interested in being a therapist for 20+ years?
I am a thoughtful, warm, and caring person who wants to see under the superficial. I have a strong sense of community and co-chair a lunch program for whoever needs a sit-down, hot lunch .
