“I am committed to facilitating honesty, transparency, acceptance, safety, and trust within the therapeutic relationship.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I knew from an early age through my upbringing in a working class and immigrant family that I wanted to be a helper and work with people. I know firsthand the experience of learning a new language and culture while navigating different home, school, and working environments. I felt and still feel a kinship to those who face challenges and need compassion due to their circumstances. My interest in listening to people’s stories as they share and make meaning of them was another factor that led me to my eventual career choice. Through my professional journey working in mental health settings within the Chinese communities of New York City for over 13 years, it became apparent to me that mental and emotional struggles are often linked to inequity between clients’ relationships and established systems. This realization motivated me to receive training in relational therapy where I learned how to facilitate conversations and healing in my clients’ lives.
What should someone know about working with you?
As a believer in the healing power of relationships, I am a therapist who strives to build strong relationships with my clients. I am committed to facilitating honesty, transparency, acceptance, safety, and trust within the therapeutic relationship. You will find in me a therapist who is present and will journey with you at your individual pace and aligned with your therapeutic needs. Through me, you will feel seen and heard.
How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy?
In addition to being a firm believer in the healing power of relationships, I have high regard for the autonomy of my clients and empathy as a practitioner. These core values make me an ally to my clients. Ultimately, my goal is for you to realize your potential in developing insight about yourself, recognize what you are in control of, and choose what is best for you in your life.
