“I started out in medical social work and I thought it was my passion, but I found that working within the hospital system involved barriers that kept me from talking to clients.”
What was your path to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker?
I started out in medical social work and I thought it was my passion, but I found that working within the hospital system involved barriers that kept me from talking to clients. Working directly with clients is my real passion. I previously worked with an agency and found that I still used most of the skills I had been using as a medical social worker, and I wanted to put my skills to use with the fewest systemic barriers in place. I have experience in hospice, palliative care, and community mental health, and I have worked with people from all walks of life in all stages of life.
What should someone know about working with you?
Progress looks very different for each person; it often begins by taking that first step to starting therapy. I try to make things simple and that first step can be as simple as just talking to me about what therapy might look like through a short consultation. Ultimately, I believe in starting where you are and going at the speed you are comfortable with.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I am really excited about the accessibility and evolution of telehealth. While it can feel strange to use at first, it is so amazing for so many who could not access healthcare previously for a variety of reasons. I also think that we are improving the way we look at mental health and the stigma is less than it was even 10 years ago, which is incredible.
“Working directly with clients is my real passion.”
