What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I have 20 years of experience working with severely mentally ill adults with co-occurring disorders and personality disorders. I have worked with adolescents and families in crisis in outpatient, intensive in-home, and community-based settings. I have also provided therapy to children and adolescents who had problems with behavior in school and at home.
What should someone know about working with you?
I make an assessment, identify client goals, and develop a plan for achieving those goals. I do give some homework and I like to work with clients who are motivated toward change.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
I am learning more about holistic treatment and nontraditional approaches, such as massage, yoga, meditation, art, and music therapy.
How do your own core values shape your approach to therapy?
I grew up in a different culture and I am very familiar with the process of accommodation and assimilation to a new and different culture.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
Through telehealth, clients can have sessions when it is convenient for them.
