Profile
“My intake process includes an initial assessment and then a collaborative relationship where I assist you with pressing difficulties while helping you gain self-awareness, insight, coping strategies, self-confidence, self-esteem, and an overall improved quality of life.”
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I graduated with my master’s in social work in 1998 and I immediately fell in love with helping those struggling with depression, anxiety, family, and interpersonal problems while working in an outpatient mental health clinic. Today, I have over 20 years of experience being a psychotherapist. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults individually and in groups. I have conducted support groups for women with trauma, children with behavioral difficulties, parents, and many others. I have continued to develop expertise in helping with conflict resolution, increasing self-esteem, increasing self-confidence, and working through bereavement.
What should someone know about working with you?
My intake process includes an initial assessment and then a collaborative relationship where I assist you with pressing difficulties while helping you gain self-awareness, insight, coping strategies, self-confidence, self-esteem, and an overall improved quality of life.
What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?
To continue building competencies as a provider, I engage in continuing education courses. Some of my favorites include the areas of motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, cultural competency, suicide prevention, and domestic violence (to name a few). I also independently read on subjects of trauma, relationships, spirituality, and holistic approaches. I love learning about healthy eating, energy work, and the importance of goal-setting in progress.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
With the popularity of telehealth, I am grateful and excited about the provision of services being offered. Telehealth makes services accessible to those with difficult commutes and fits care into their schedule. Telehealth has made care attainable, convenient, and more available to individuals and families in need.
